The Central Coast’s Top Playgrounds:
Being Central Coast locals and parents ourselves, we’re no strangers to the Central Coast playground scene. Our weekends often involve navigating the various parks scattered across the area with our own children. We’ve done the legwork for you to uncover the most exciting and family-friendly playgrounds on the Central Coast that promise endless fun for kids of all ages. Not only do these playgrounds offer a plethora of play options, but they also boast convenient amenities and stunning natural backdrops. We’ve created a list below of our favourites, let’s slide on in.
- Ross Park, Avoca Beach
Nestled next to the picturesque Avoca Beach, Ross Park has undergone a recent transformation, emerging as a haven for families seeking a perfect day out. The playground’s proximity to the beach and rockpool adds an extra layer of excitement. Parents can enjoy a coffee or a quick bite from the kiosk underneath the surf club, which is conveniently located next to the park and there’s also a toilet block located nearby.
- Terrigal Rotary Park Playground & Parklife
Situated next to the lagoon, the Terrigal Rotary Park playground is a fully fenced wonderland for children. There’s two sections of climbing equipment spread out across the enclosed grounds, as well as multiple picnic tables, BBQ facilities and plenty of grassed area to spread a blanket. It’s an ideal location for birthday parties and playgroup meetings. Ducks also frequently visit the grounds and the adjacent water creating more entertainment for the kids. With a coffee shop and the Marine Discovery Centre nearby, this playground provides a perfect setting for a day filled with exploration and relaxation.
- Sun Valley Park, Green Point
Designed with input from the local community, Sun Valley Park in Green Point stands out as a dynamic outdoor space suitable for all ages. Boasting BBQ facilities, ample seating and onsite toilet amenities, this is another spot that is an ideal location for birthday parties and playgroup meetings. The playground’s nature-inspired setup, divided into different sections, encourages exploration and imaginative play, making it a hit with both kids and parents.
- Susan Fahey Park, Copacabana
Opened in 2021, Susan Fahey Park in Copacabana is a secret spot surrounded by lush greenery. Its inclusive design caters to children on the autism spectrum, featuring visual and sensory elements and quiet spaces for retreat. The playground is well-shaded and as it’s not located on the busy seafront of Copa, it really is a hidden gem. For a full day out, visit this park and Shaun Brinklow park (see below), followed by a trip to the bakery and the beach.
- Shaun Brinklow Park, Copacabana
A favourite of ours, this fully fenced playground is located down near Copacabana beach. Grab a coffee and a pastry from Burnt Honey Bakery (easily the best bakery on the Central Coast) and wander into this newly renovated space. There’s a large grass area for you to enjoy your bite to eat while the kids enjoy the equipment. For a full day out, hit the beach before or after. You’ll find a small Rockpool at the northern end and given its position on the coast line, the beach is sheltered from the north-easterly winds that can often blow strong in the afternoons.
- Swadling Reserve Park, Toowoon Bay
Recently updated, Swadling Reserve Park in Toowoon Bay offers not only modern play equipment but also breathtaking views of Toowoon Bay Beach. Families can enjoy picnics at one of the park’s many picnic tables and BBQ spaces. There’s plenty of space to spread a blanket on the grass and there’s also a café located at the surf club down below for your caffeine fix. For a full day out, visit this park before or after the beach as Toowoon Bay Beach is one of the best family friendly spots on the Central Coast thanks to its calm waters and rockpools.
- Leagues Club Park, Gosford
Located on the edge of Brisbane Water, the Leagues Club Park in Gosford is a result of the NSW Government’s commitment to transforming the region’s play spaces. This nature-inspired playground features an interactive discovery trail for kids and incorporates local Indigenous heritage. The ‘Tidal Terrace’ brings the bay into the park, creating a unique experience for children. Nearby cafes like South End Social and Bouffant offer a delightful post-play refreshment.
