On dwelling mix, 54.5% of homes are separate houses, 38.4% are townhouses and similar attached dwellings, and 6.1% are flats or apartments, so while houses are still the largest single category, Long Jetty has a meaningfully higher share of townhouses and medium-density housing than most Central Coast beach suburbs.

The leading occupations locally are Professionals (19%), Technicians and Trades Workers (16%) and Community and Personal Service Workers (15%). The top employing industries are Other Social Assistance Services, Hospitals (excluding psychiatric) and Aged Care Residential Services, reflecting Long Jetty's proximity to Wyong Hospital and the broader Tuggerah Lakes health and aged care precinct.

Housing options for owner-occupiers

Long Jetty offers a genuine mix of housing stock for owner-occupiers, from older free-standing cottages on the lake side of the suburb through to townhouses and low-rise units closer to The Entrance Road. With houses making up a little over half of all dwellings, buyers have a realistic choice between a free-standing home and a lower-maintenance townhouse or unit, both well represented in the current market.

Schools and childcare

Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College, The Entrance Campus, a government secondary school. Families with children in local public or Catholic primary schooling will generally look to neighbouring suburbs, and those zoned or enrolling nearby commonly consider St Peter's Catholic College at Tuggerah, along with the Catholic primary schools at Tumbi Umbi (St John Fisher) and Shelly Beach (Our Lady of the Rosary), both part of the Diocese of Broken Bay system. There are two childcare centres in Long Jetty itself: Little Souls Academy on The Entrance Road and Long Jetty Preschool on Kitchener Road.

Health and everyday amenities

Day-to-day needs are well served locally along The Entrance Road's cafe and retail strip, with Coles and a wider shopping centre at nearby Bateau Bay Square, and larger medical and hospital facilities available at Wyong and Gosford.

An affordable, well-established lakeside neighbourhood

Long Jetty's SEIFA scores (the ABS's measure of relative socio-economic advantage) have sat in the low range, between 1 and 3 out of 10, at every Census since 2001, consistent with its character as one of the more accessible, affordably priced suburbs on this stretch of the Central Coast rather than a premium enclave. That said, median weekly household income has more than doubled since 2006, from $599 to $1,201 at the 2021 Census, and house prices have grown a strong 7.82% a year on average over 30 years. Public and community housing makes up 5.25% of dwellings in Long Jetty (184 dwellings), described by SuburbsFinder as a small proportion, worth noting as part of a balanced picture of the suburb rather than a reason for concern on its own.

Getting around

Long Jetty is around 18 minutes from Tuggerah and Ourimbah train stations, both on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line with direct services to Sydney. The M1 Pacific Motorway is approximately 20 minutes away, giving reasonably quick access both north toward Newcastle and south toward Sydney.

Our local favourite

A Sharp Property Buyers favourite in Long Jetty is Il Toscano Pasta Bar, a relaxed, no-bookings Italian spot on The Entrance Road that's become a local institution for honest, generous pasta.
