Wamberal
Wamberal is a coastal suburb that splits neatly into two halves: a beachfront strip along Wamberal Beach, and a quieter, semi-rural hinterland pocket set back from the coast. It sits just north of Terrigal, close enough to borrow its cafes and beach culture without the same price tag or crowds, and a short drive from Erina's shopping and dining precinct.

Living on the Central Coast
What it's like to live in Wamberal
Wamberal is a mid-sized, high-income suburb of just under 7,000 people across 8.77 square kilometres. Unlike some of its neighbours, growth here has been steady and complete right through to the most recent Census: population moved from 5,437 in 2001 to 6,991 in 2021, with the owner-occupier rate climbing the whole way.

Owner-occupiers now make up 80% of households, up from 72% in 2001, one of the clearest upward trends of any Central Coast suburb in this dataset. Household size has also grown slightly, from an average of 2.7 people in 2006 to 2.9 today, suggesting larger families have been moving in over time rather than the suburb turning over to smaller households.
It's a house-first suburb: 87% of dwellings are separate houses, with the remaining 13% townhouses, units and other dwelling types combined.
The leading occupations locally are Professionals (28%), Managers (16%) and Clerical and Administrative Workers (13%), the most white-collar occupation mix of any Central Coast suburb profiled so far. The top employing industries are Hospitals (excluding psychiatric), Primary Education and Cafes and Restaurants.
Crime sits very low here too. A score of 10 out of 100, where a higher number means more crime, matching Green Point as among the lowest readings on the Central Coast.
Housing options for owner-occupiers
Wamberal is the most expensive of the Central Coast suburbs profiled so far. Houses here carry a genuine beachfront and lifestyle premium, sitting well above Green Point's $1,310,500 median and more than $700,000 above Killarney Vale's $955,000.

Houses are currently taking around 38 days to sell, close to flat over the past quarter but meaningfully faster than three months, twelve months or five years ago, down from roughly 60 days five years back. Units have moved the opposite way: a unit here now takes around 51 days to sell, up sharply from roughly 16 days three years ago, a sign buyer interest has leaned more towards houses than units in Wamberal recently.
Renting in Wamberal
If you're relocating and renting first, median rent for a house in Wamberal is $850 a week, flat over the past quarter and year but up 14.86% over five years. Units sit at $755 a week, up 2.72% over the year and 51.61% over five years, a much steeper climb than houses have seen. On the room rental side, 18 people were looking for a room locally against just 3 rooms advertised online at last count, the widest gap between demand and supply of any suburb profiled so far.
Wamberal schools and childcare
Public schools: primary-aged children in Wamberal are zoned to Erina Heights, Terrigal or Wamberal Public Schools depending on location, with secondary students zoned for Terrigal High School or Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College. Wamberal Public School itself sits within the suburb. For more on the nearby zoning suburbs, see our Erina and Terrigal suburb snapshots.
Private schools: nearby options include Central Coast Grammar School, Central Coast Adventist School and Our Lady Star of the Sea (K-6).
Early learning & childcare: there are eight childcare and early learning services in the suburb: Alkira Early Learning Centre, Juniors at Wamberal, Strawberry Fields Cottage Wamberal, The Central Coast Montessori School, YMCA Wamberal OSHC, Little Miracles Preschool and Long Day Care, Sprout ELC Wamberal and Milestones Early Learning Wamberal, the widest spread of any suburb profiled so far.
Health and everyday amenities
There's no hospital within Wamberal itself, the nearest public hospital is in Gosford. Wamberal splits into a beachfront strip and a quieter hinterland pocket, giving residents a genuine choice between coastal living and a more bushland, semi-rural setting within the one suburb. Terrigal's town centre is minutes away for the bigger shop, dining and the beach scene, without Wamberal carrying the same price premium or crowds.
A neighbourhood that's consistently affluent
Wamberal isn't a suburb on the way up, it's one that's already there and has stayed there. Its SEIFA scores (the ABS's measure of relative socio-economic advantage) have sat in the 8 to 10 range out of 10 across every Census since 2001, well above the national “above average” mark of 5, and without the steady upward climb seen in suburbs like Killarney Vale. Median household income has more than doubled since 2006, from $1,123 to $2,407 a week, among the highest of any Central Coast suburb in this dataset. For someone buying to live in, that combination, high and stable rather than improving, points to an already-established, low-risk neighbourhood rather than one still finding its feet.
